The Mystery of Afghanistan

This will require time. No one changes his/her mind in a minute. It takes time. Sometimes a long time. And the situation in Afghanistan will require much contemplation to understand. I’ll return to this theme often, but for now, let us begin.

We might as well start with a current situation. It’s on everyone’s mind, the mosque being proposed in New York. Everyone is correct; it’s perfectly legal AND it’s perfectly offensive, divisive, and inappropriate. Please get used to this sort of conundrum. It will become the trademark between Islam and the West.

To work on these problems try to recall the magician. How do you identify his trick? The key is to look everywhere EXCEPT where he is focusing your attention. That’s how you will see what his inactive hand is doing while you are focusing on the hand he draws all the attention to. It’s the same here. Everyone is focused on the legality, the offense, the sensitivities of the families of the 9-11 victims, etc. But we know they are all correct. So focus elsewhere.

The president said, “I believe that Muslims have the right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country.” The president is not trying to deceive. He made a statement that is so obvious that we would never consider reconsidering it, or even reflecting on it for a moment. But there is something off balance about this statement. I’m working to figure out what it is. Are we free to believe that African-Americans are genetically inferior to whites? Certainly we are not free to actually practice that thinking in our hiring. And we are free to believe that if one dies in an act of jihad against the infidel they will get a free pass around judgment and into paradise—indeed this is the only way to get that free pass. And if we are free to believe that, we certainly are free to teach that “truth” to our children, the fertile minds who will surely make the world a better place by performing the ultimate act of jihad. With confidence I tell you—this is precisely what those fertile minds did on September 11, 2001.

More to come
